Baise-moi
(Remstar, Special Collector's Edition, $29.95; also on VHS, rental only)

By BROOKE HAUSER

What's most offensive about this French import isn't its rape scene or the hard-core violence unleashed by its rampaging heroines, the indifferent acting that the high-energy punk rock soundtrack tries to camouflage, or even its grainy close-ups of sexual penetration. What's most offensive about this movie is its pretentiousness and vapidity, which is only underscored by the comments of codirectors-cowriters Virginie Despentes and Coralie Trinh Thi on the DVD's supplements. Despite recent comparisons, Baise-Moi is no Thelma & Louise—but it might make you wish that you had rented a good old-fashioned porno instead.
