Bio
Brooke Hauser
Brooke Hauser is a writer living in New York City. For several years, she covered the film industry as Writer-at-Large at Premiere, where she was also an editor.

In 2005, her interest in profiling characters not usually featured in the mainstream media led her to the City section of The New York Times. For her first cover story, which later was optioned for a movie, she spent weeks chronicling the misadventures of a clique of Staten Island girls looking for love.

Since then, she has tried to dig deep and tread lightly in many different worlds, from New York’s broken juvenile justice system to Harlem’s spirited Baptist community. When she wasn’t attending Sunday sermons at Canaan Baptist Church of Christ for a story about their divisive search for a new pastor, she gained serious poundage thanks to the delicious smothered chicken and waffles served at Amy Ruth’s across the street. More recently, while shadowing 13 beauty queens who were competing in the Miss New York Chinese pageant in Flushing, Queens, Hauser was asked repeatedly if she herself was a contestant, a question she finds both flattering and confounding.

She still writes about movies and movie stars for The Los Angeles Times, Allure, and More, among other publications. Originally from Miami, Florida, Hauser began her career as a reporter for The Miami Herald. She is a graduate of Kenyon College.
